98 Service Flap (S-37)
98 Service Flap

The 1998 Service Flap was a new design intended to highlight the new emblem used to represent the OA, the arrowhead. The patch was designed by Nicky Johnston, the advisor of the insignia committee, with the large arrowhead in the center of the flap, the dancing turtle on the right, and the year on the left. The words CHEERFUL SERVICE were put at the bottom of the flap since that is the motto of the lodge and the traditional WWW in the center to finish the design of a new and colorful flap. The flaps were awarded to XX arrowmen at the annual banquet held on January 16 in Oxford. This service flap goes into the list as one of the most sought after flaps in our council since only those who earned the flap received two flaps each and an additional two went into the lodge collection. No other flaps should be in existance for a total number of XX flaps. The requirements to earn the service flap change from year to year but it took at least 100 hours in different areas of scouting and community service to earn this flap in 1998. One of the major projects undertaken by our lodge was to completely renovate our council ring to where it can seat about 500 people with a new control tower. The council ring project accounted for over 2000 man hours of service to the council. We applaud those who earned the service flap in 1998 and look for even bigger things in 1999.
