CHICKSA CONFERENCE CENTER
CCC
Above is a picture of the Chicksa Conference Center located at beautiful Camp Yocona. It was built with funds provided by several benifactors and the local lodge of The Order of the Arrow. It is to be used by our council as a training facility for all aspects of scouting. It is has its own kitchenette and two restrooms complete with a shower facility in each. The youth of the lodge wanted the CCC as it has become known to be located as near the lake as possible so it was placed in the area where the "old jamboree" showers were located, which later became the ecology building and later was just a storage building. The building is climate controlled and an office in one corner of the building for storage of OA items and a desk and filing cabinets for OA information and papers. If you look out the back window, you will see the old waterfront and across the enlarged lake, you will see the new waterfront.
These pictures were taken on August 20th, 2006. The temp was a blistering 100º outside but the OA orientation for the new members was held inside at a comfortable 72º. The grass shows the results of the hot and dry weather that had been our summer but the building is a beautiful site at camp. Work on the interior is on going but it is a welcome addition to Beautiful Camp Yocona.
Picture of half the front porch showing bricks
The lodge used a brick selling campaign as the fund raiser for their part of the lodge expense. The picture above shows the right side of the front porch to give an idea of the layout of the bricks. For a closer look at some of the bricks on the porch, CLICK HERE. Please do not be upset if your brick was not used as an example of the bricks. The lodge is now in the process of selling bricks for the back porch. They start at $50 and go up from there. Bricks presently on the porch go as high as $1000 for bricks the size of the one for the jamboree troop for the 2005 jamboree. DOWNLOAD the form and order a brick NOW so you will not be left out on this "porch of scouting history". The deadline has not been set as of this date but once the bricks go on the porch, there will be no more room and the opportunity for you to leave your mark on camp in a positive way will be gone. More pictures of bricks will be added later. My other pictures were a little too blurred to put on the web at this time.
Turtle in the bricks at the entry
The lodge wants to express their special thinks for the expert brick laying of John Cary with the expert assistance of Danny Foster and William Munn. Sorry there is no picture of William and that these pictures are not any better of these super hard workers at this time but you see they were hard at work with cheerful hearts and smiles on their faces. THANKS FELLOWS
